Our campaign for a bus station is beginning to pay dividends as officials at County Hall in Nottingham have been fired into action and are acquiring land that could be used.
They now need to agree the budget to build it - We need action not promises and I want to see building works commence within the next 12 months.
I will keep you posted on this top priority.
It is one thing after another as we now face battles to keep our ambulance station and the ticket office at Worksop railway station.
Nobody could possibly argue that both are not needed.
A station with no staff alongside a busy level crossing, would be a major hazard, while closing ambulance stations in either Worksop or Retford is a non starter. We will need to up our protests and campaigning on both these issues.
I have received an extraordinary letter from Notts County Council on the switching off of the street lights across Bassetlaw.
In the letter they claim that this will cut crime! Let us work this one out. Lights have been or are being switched off in parts of Worksop, the villages of Langold and Carlton and elsewhere and people have to go to work and return in the pitch black for half the year at a time when the roads and paths are potentially icy.
Yet somehow this will deter criminals.
Presumably their twisted logic is that burglars and car thieves do not like to go out in the dark.
I always thought it was the other way round and clearly the police agree with me.
They recommend safety lights to deter crime in unlit areas.
It is extraordinary how those making the cuts can defy all logic in pursuing their badly thought out plans.
If they were listening they would not put this additional pressure and fear on people and if they thought about it, they would realise that their arguments are nonsensical.
I was challenged in this paper some months ago, when I pointed out that Bolsover paid their council chief less than Bassetlaw. Again the truth has emerged and I was and am right on this.
The Taxpayers Alliance has produced a Council Rich List, which shows that Bolsover pays much less than Bassetlaw.
Their report also shows that Notts County Council has given some huge increases to its senior staff this year- whilst selling off care homes and switching off street lights, with one official receiving an increase of over £30,000.
