East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) is offering free emergency life saving skills training to people living in Worksop on Saturday.
The course, coordinated by the British Heart Foundation, teaches people what to do in a life-threatening emergency.
It includes how to recognise a heart attack, how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking, serious bleeding and an unconscious casualty.
The course runs on Saturday 29th June at Worksop Library, on Memorial Avenue from 10am to 12pm.
Annie Palmer, EMAS membership manager, who will lead the course, said: “Everyone has a role to play in an emergency and giving first aid within the first few minutes of an incident can literally mean the difference between life and death.”
“Most cardiac arrests occur out-of-hospital and survival is more likely if each link in the ‘chain of survival’ is strong.”
“Having people in rural areas, communities with poor road networks or traffic congestion, and where large crowds gather, are all places where people trained in emergency life-saving skills are needed the most.”
“Nationally ambulance services are required to get to 75 per cent of life-threatening emergencies within eight minutes of the call being picked up. However, when it comes to cardiac arrest, seconds count and so if you can do CPR you can buy the time needed for our ambulance crews to arrive and save the life of your loved one.”
“Being able to do CPR more than doubles their chance of survival.”
