The A1 south of Newark is closed in both directions this morning (Wednesday 19th June 2013).
Drivers planning to travel on the A1 should avoid the area until further notice.
The closure follows a crash at around 5.30am this morning near to Claypole between a lorry and a transit van.
The impact caused a fire resulting in a large plume of smoke obscuring both carriageways.
Emergency services are currently at the scene dealing with the flames and checking if there have been any injuries.
Diversions are in place but motorists are being asked to avoid the area, where possible.
