FIRE ripped through the St John Ambulance building in Gainsborough on Wednesday night.
The historic building on Spital Terrace is the base for the town’s unit of voluntary first-aiders.
Fire crews from Gainsborough, Misterton, Saxilby and Lincoln were called to the blaze on the first floor at 9.15pm.
A hydraulic platform, two hose reels and four breathing apparatus were used to bring the flames under control.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said the damage inside the building was ‘severe’.
A spokesman said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
