Police are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old student from Swallownest was seriously hurt following a night out.

The incident happened at around 1.50am on Thursday on Swallow Wood Road at the junction with Haigh Moor Way in Swallownest.

The man and three male friends had travelled in a black cab, believed to be a Peugeot Expert, from the rank outside the Corporation bar, in Milton Street, Sheffield.

When they reached Swallownest it appears that the 20-year-old local man fell from the moving taxi, suffering fractures to the skull around his right eye socket.

He was taken to Rotherham Hospital, where he remains, but is likely to be transferred to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital for surgery.

In the meantime, another passenger paid the fare and the taxi left the area.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident and for the taxi driver to get in touch.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 387 of 17th November or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
