A MAN who waited outside a house in Worksop while others went in to steal has been jailed.

Daniel Markham, 33, of Garside Street, Worksop, admitted his part in the burglary in Church Walk on 2nd December last year.

The owner had gone out for the evening and returned to find his front door unlocked, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

His wife had misplaced her key the previous day, said Paul Stimson, prosecuting.

Among the property stolen was a laptop worth £400, a playstation valued at £250 and bottles of alcohol.

Police identified those involved from CCTV footage at a nearby pub.

Markham was jailed for six months, with a further week for failing to surrender to bail. A woman had already been sentenced to five months and a youth given a referral order.

Markham would have shared in any profits made from the stolen goods, the court was told.

He asked for a further offence of attempting to steal food from Sainsburys on 12th February this year to be taken into consideration.

His barrister Gurdal Singh said the prosecution accepted Markham did not enter the house and he had already spent 28 days in custody after breaking bail.

Judge Nigel Godsmark told Markham no doubt he had a troubled and chaotic lifestyle but people involved in house burglary had to go to prison.
